Forgetting a child in the backseat

I can’t recommend that anyone read this incredibly moving article by Gene Weingarten about parents who forget that they have their kids in the backseat. (It’s a very difficult read, one that will likely make you weep.)

Gene, in one article, changed my feeling about these stories.

I’m more familiar with Gene’s comedy writing. This piece is remarkably well-crafted, and the stories within it are unspeakably painful.

I went to Lauren and the girls for hugs and kisses after reading it, and gave Lauren a summary, but told her not to read it. Her response — of course — was that it could never happen to her.

I told her that it could never happen to anyone… but still does.
